The Markland Wood neighbourhood consists of roughly 1,200 homes, most of which pay into the Markland Home Association. With this association, the neighbourhood is able to organize a variety of activities ranging from its Christmas Caravan to a scholarship program for college bound residents.
The land on which Markland Wood sits has a long history, dating back to its original owner, John Silverthorn, in 1810.
For many years, Silverthorn Mills was the primary focal point of the community. During the 1870’s, the family transitioned into the farming industry.
In 1958, the Silverthorn family decided to sell their land to a developer. Soon thereafter, Markland Wood was born.
The majority of homes in Markland Wood were constructed between 1960 and 1962, and consists of Regency revival and Georgian designs. You will also find split level homes and bungalows in the community.
The most coveted homes in the area are located on Markland Drive, as these are situated on the Markland Wood Country Club.
