As one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Toronto, Leaside is home to a variety of people ranging from families to young couples among others. Thanks to its high profile and top-notch location, this community is known as being one of the most expensive real estate districts in the city.
Despite the fact that Leaside is home to many types of people, it is most popular among upper middle class families who are looking for a safe and friendly place to raise children.
In addition to plenty of open space, the community has excellent schools as well as the Bayview Avenue shopping district. To top it off, Leaside is also located in close proximity to public transit.
History
Leaside was established in 1819 by John Lea, hence the name. In the 1850’s his son William built a home and named it Leaside. From that day forward, this neighbourhood had its name.
Like many communities in Toronto, growth was stalled during World War I. That being said, Leaside was busy during this time thanks to the manufacturing of artillery at the Leaside Munitions Company.
Homes
The majority of homes in Leaside were constructed during the 1930’s and 1940’s, with many still containing original features including hardwood floors and wood burning fireplaces.
To go along with the older homes in Leaside, townhome and condo developments were constructed on the outlying parts of the community during the 1990’s. These developments offer the ability for buyers with a smaller budget to live in the neighbourhood.
