From a great location to top of the line schools to plenty of green space, Bedford Park has it all. Combine this with a strong sense of community, and it is easy to see why it is known as one of the top neighbourhoods in Toronto for raising a family.
While there is a variety of people living in Bedford Park, the neighbourhood primarily attracts families with young children. This is due in large part to the high quality public and private schools, as well as a community center and playgrounds.
History
Although the origin of the name is uncertain, most believe that Bedford Park was named after the Bedford Park Hotel that opened for business in the area in 1873.
The first residential homes were constructed in Bedford Park in the 1890’s, due in large part to the railway system that began serving the area around this time.
Despite the fact that some locals refer to Bedford Park by its name, others call it “North Toronto” due to the fact that the two united in the 1890’s.
Homes
Bedford Park is one of those neighbourhoods that offer a variety of home types, with detached and semi-detached among the most popular.
Most of the homes in the area were constructed between 1890 and 1940. Although some of the older homes were torn down, these have been replaced with custom houses.
In addition to older homes, Bedford Park is known for its newer townhome developments.
