Located along the Toronto waterfront, Long Branch has been home to a diverse number of people for many years. Although the neighbourhood has a rich history, it has undergone some changes as of late with new home developments popping up in recent areas.

Long Branch is loved by residents and locals for many reasons, including its shopping district, waterfront trail, parks, and arena.

History
Since its settlement in 1797, Long Branch has undergone many changes.

For nearly 100 years, the land was occupied by Colonel Samuel Smith and/or his family. However, in 1883, part of the area was sold to developers who subsequently built Long Branch Park, a well known summer resort at the time.

In 1916, the area of Long Branch increased in popularity due in large part to the paving of Lake Shore Boulevard. This made it easier for a growing number of people to visit the area, while also turning the neighbourhood into a year-round community as opposed to summer getaway.

The most intense period of development occurred between the 1920’s and 1950’s.

Homes
There are a variety of home types in Long Branch, thanks to the development that has occurred during many periods.

Many of the original homes were constructed between the 1920’s and 1950’s. Along with these properties, newer custom houses have been built along Lakeshore Boulevard in recent years.
