Despite the fact that type of people living in East York is slowly changing, this is still one of the best places to live in the city of Toronto. There used to be a time when this community was home to the largest number of senior citizens in the city. History
When first incorporated in 1924, East York was comprised of a few brick making yards, a race horse track and some market gardens.
From the years of 1946 to 1961, the community experienced significant growth as a growing number of people decided to make it home. During this time, the number of homes in the neighbourhood double.
Homes
Homes in East York were constructed over a long period of time, ranging from the late 1890’s to the early 1960’s. For this reason, the neighbourhood includes homes of many styles including two story and one story detached and semi-detached properties.
In addition to a handful of modern custom homes, there are also several high rise apartment buildings located along Cosburn Avenue.
Pricing
Due to the variety of home types, sales prices in East York vary greatly. On one side of the spectrum, bungalows sell for as low as $330,000. As you make your way up the housing ladder, don’t be surprised to find two story detached homes selling for $1 million or more.
