When it comes to old neighbourhoods in the city of Toronto, there are not many that can compete with St. Lawrence. In fact, this community is as old as the city itself.
As you make your way through St. Lawrence, it is easy to see that some of the history, established in the 19th century, still exists. This goes a long way in giving the area a unique look and feel when compared to others in and around the city.

For example, St. Lawrence is home to many red and yellow brick buildings in Georgian style, a key indicator of its 19th century architecture.
Of course, not everything about the neighbourhood is old. As you make your way to the area around The Espanade, you will find construction that doesn’t date back any further than the 1970’s. It is this blend of old and new that makes St. Lawrence a great place to live.

History

Many people find it hard to believe that St. Lawrence has kept its visual appeal for so many years, dating back to the early 1800’s.
By the time the 1900’s rolled around, St. Lawrence had become an industrial center in the city of Toronto. By the 1940’s industry began to move away from the area, which led to a period of decline that lasted until the 1970’s.

It was at this time when St. Lawrence made a change for the better, beginning to develop as a residential community.

You will not find many single family homes in St. Lawrence. Instead, apartment buildings and townhouses are most popular. Along with these developments, there are luxury condos located throughout the area.
