Davisville Village is unique for many reasons, including the fact that it attracts a variety of people ranging from families to young couples to single individuals. This is due in large part to the quality of life offered by the neighbourhood, thanks to its shopping district, recreational activities, and active nightlife.
History
Named after John Davis, Davisville Village has been in existence since 1840. The south portion of the community was subdivided in the 1860’s, with the north part being owned by the Church at the time.
Dovercourt Land and Building Company got involved in the area in 1911. This company was experienced in developing similar neighbourhoods, thanks to its efforts in Lawrence Park.
The history of Davisville Village may not be as old as other neighbourhoods in Toronto, but it has plenty to offer. For instance, the original Davisville post office is still standing.
Homes
Most of the homes in Davisville Village were constructed in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Although Davisville Village is one community, when it comes to housing styles there is a divide.
East of Mount Pleasant Road you will find small detached and semi detached homes, along with several historical properties dating back to the late 1800’s. This area is also where you will find newer custom built properties.
West of Mount Pleasant Road is where you will find two and three story homes in Edwardian and English Cottage style.
For singles and younger couples, the community is home to many newer condos and apartment buildings.
